Preparation for Flexible Sigmoidoscopy

To prepare for a thorough flexible sigmoidoscopy exam, the rectum and lower colon must be cleaned out. One hour prior to reporting for your examination, you must take two fleets enemas. Fleets enemas may be purchased at any pharmacy.

• Remove cap and administer enema as shown on the box
• Retain enema for 5 minutes or as long as possible
• Release enema and bowel movement
• Remove cap and administer the second enema as shown o the box
• Retain enema for 5 mites or as long as possible
• Release enema and bowel movement

Two fleets enemas should be adequate preparation for your exam.

DO NOT have anything to eat or drink after midnight the day before your procedure unless otherwise instructed.
